6-7, or 10+ in 2026
Numbers are usually used to count something that is important or to give additional understanding to a situation. Numbers give information which in turn gives meaning.
This past year, we saw the term 6-7 as one of the most used expressions, especially by young people. 6-7 really has no meaning. It is an expression that indicates “I don’t know and I don’t care.”
It’s sad to see a generation that is focusing on no meaning. I am told that sometimes you hear youth refer to 6-7 with their palms up with a juggling or weighing motion. 6-7 means nothing.
One of the people who is credited with developing the idea of 6-7 is LaMello Ball of the Charlotte Hornets. LaMello is 6’ 7” tall and has created a following among young people for bringing swag onto the court. While he is not noted for his skill on the court, he is credited with contributing to the notion that 6-7 can be used to describe an average performance or situation.
Some people who study these kinds of things say that actually 6-7 can be used to answer any question that a kid might be asked. TikTok creator Mr. Lindsay explains that most of the teenagers who use it don’t even know what they are saying. It just means nothing.
6-7 is the opposite of what Jesus comes to offer every person. He said, “I have come that you might have life and have it abundantly.” Abundantly would convey to me that on a scale of 1-10 you can rate a 10 or a 10+ if you discover the abundant life that Jesus came to bring.
Every day when you get up, you have a choice. You can choose to be 6-7 – nothing, or you can choose to be a 10+, a person who is experiencing God’s work in his or her life. It brings meaning.
You can receive the 10+ abundant life that only Jesus can give. C.S. Lewis writes, “We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition, when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”
Lewis also insisted that to change the culture, we must first be changed ourselves. To become our best selves, we must be changed by the One who gives our lives greater meaning than we can imagine. God seeks to rebuild our lives, not into a “decent little cottage” but into a palace. He changes us into a 10+ palace because He intends to come and live in it Himself! (Galatians 2:20)
Viktor Frankl greatly influenced my thinking. He survived Auschwitz. He wasn’t a 6-7, but a 10+. He believed that man’s search for meaning is the primary motivation for his life. He experienced that the prisoners most likely to survive never abandoned hope but found meaning in life, even in their suffering.
For so many people, life is 6-7—just a merry-go-round of meaningless activities. You can use it to answer any question, which really isn’t an answer. It’s just something to use that has no meaning.
I hope that every day you get up you know that God has something for you to do that has extremely great meaning. As Mark Twain said, “The two most important days in your life are the day that you were born and the day that you know why you were born. Do you know why? Do you know God’s purpose for your life? Don’t ever settle for a 6-7 nothingness—only settle for the best that God has for you.
