Meet the Board behind John Ed Mathison's Leadership Ministries
The Board of Directors was established to provide accountability for all aspects of the John Ed Mathison Leadership Ministries. Part of this includes helping to discern which invitations to accept to best utilize time and energy. It includes financial accountability, setting a budget and approving financial expenditures. The Board also serves as a sounding board for ideas and making suggestions for specific areas of ministry. The Board of Directors is an “active” board with regular quarterly meetings.
Mike Henig
Chairman of the Board
Mike Henig is President and CEO of Henig Furs and the owner of Henig Real Estate. He has been a past Board Member of SouthTrust Bank, Alabama National Fair and the Alabama Institute of Deaf and Blind. He has been a committee member of the Boy Scouts of America and the Jimmy Hitchcock Selection Committee.
Mike is married to the former Jenny Lynn Tankersley and they have three children, Jessica (Matthew) Coblentz, Alex (Colin) Jones and Michael, Jr. (Alexia). They have eight grandchildren. Mike and Jenny Lynn are members of Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church where Mike has served as Chairman of the Board of Stewards, and as a member of Council on Ministries, Finance and Building Committees, and delegate to Annual Conference.
Gaeton Lorino
Vice President
Dr. Gaeton Lorino is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. His M. D. degree is from the University of South Alabama. He served three years as a general medical officer in the U. S. Navy attaining the rank of Lt. Commander. After completing training at the University of South Alabama Medical Center in both Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine, Dr. Lorino has been in private practice. He is currently a partner with Montgomery Pulmonary Associates.
Gaeton is married to Dr. Cindy Lorino, and they are members of Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church. He has served in various ministries including being a member of the Board of Stewards and a captain in the “In His Steps” program. He is past chairman of the Ethics Committee at Baptist South Medical Center. He is a member of the board of directors of the American Morgan Horse Institute and a board member of the Alabama Shakespeare Theater.
Mike Hutson
Vice President
Serving as one of the Leadership Ministries’ Vice Presidents, Mike Hutson also serves on several other boards. He is retired from a business after careers with Kimberly Clark Corporation and Caterpillar Tractor Company and as president of Buford Equipment Co. He has a degree in Industrial Technology and Engineering from Bradley University.
Mike’s wife is Sharon Beck Hutson and his children are Russell (Rusty) Hutson and Erica (Rikki) Brown. They have five grandchildren. He and Sharon have taught a young couples’ Sunday School class at Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church for several years and have been members since 1972.
Lucinda Cannon
Treasurer
Lucinda Samford Cannon is a native and lifelong resident of Opelika, Alabama. After attending Wesleyan College in Macon, GA, she was awarded a BS and a MEd from Auburn University. She is retired from a career in commercial real estate sales and subdivision development. Presently, she is president of W. James Samford, Jr. Foundation. Lucinda is a member of the Huntingdon College Board of Trustees, Southern States Bank Board, and the East Alabama Medical Center Board. She is locally involved on the Opelika Planning Commission.
Lucinda is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Opelika where she has held various positions on different committees and is presently a Sunday School teacher. She has one son, Race, who is married to Heather, as well as, a granddaughter and three grandsons.
Linda Poole
Secretary
Linda Poole retired in 2018 after 10 years as Dr. John Ed Mathison’s Executive Assistant. She worked with him in this capacity at Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church and, after his retirement, joined him in his work at the John Ed Mathison Leadership Ministry. Before this, she worked at Frazer Memorial UMC as an Assistant in the Music Ministry. Prior to her work for the church, she enjoyed a career as a school teacher and coach. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Troy University and did graduate work at Troy University, Georgia College, and Auburn University.
Linda has served on the Trinity Presbyterian School Board of Directors, as well as on their Scholarship Committee and the Athletic Committee. She has also served on the Montgomery Save A Life Board of Directors and on the Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church Board of Stewards.
Linda is married to Ronald (Ronnie) Poole and they have one daughter, Jennifer Precht, married to Rev. Michael Precht. They have four grandchildren: Laken, Elsa, Evelyn and Ian. Linda and Ronnie are members of First United Methodist Church of Montgomery, AL.
Ken Love
Board Member
Ken Love of Montgomery, Alabama is a CPA. He retired after 30 years in public accounting and served four years as the CFO for Hudson Industries, Inc., a business based in Troy, Alabama. He is employed currently in a franchising business for Subway brand restaurants. Ken serves on the board of directors for Alabama AgCr (formerly the Federal Land Bank of South Alabama) and on the board of directors of Whitfield Foods, Inc.
Ken and his wife Faye are active members at First Baptist Church of Montgomery. Ken is a deacon and serves in Community Ministries. He is the father of two sons.
Wilbur Hufham
Board Member
Wilbur Hufham is retired from Regions Financial Corporation where at retirement he served as Regional President with responsibilities for banking operations throughout Alabama, middle and eastern Tennessee and the Florida panhandle. He was also responsible for Regions Mortgage, Inc. and its subsidiaries, Equifirst and Regions Funding. Wilbur is currently affiliated or has been affiliated with numerous civic, professional, academic, social and church boards along with leadership roles in many fund raising efforts. He is a past member of the National Steering Committee for the University of Alabama which raised 500 million dollars for facilities, faculty and scholarships.
Wilbur is married to the former Mary Elizabeth Boroughs. They have two children, Marybeth Farris and Coleman Hufham and seven grandchildren. They are active members of First United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Alabama.
Stephen Davidson
Board Member
Stephen L. Davidson, MD, is a medical oncologist and hematologist as well as a partner, and Medical Director of Clinical Research at the Montgomery Cancer Center. He also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. For over ten years, he has been the Hematology/ Oncology Section Chief for the UAB teaching program in Montgomery, instructing internal medicine and family medicine residents as well as medical students.
A graduate of both Samford University and the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Dr. Davidson has conducted extensive research over the years, having been an investigator in over 30 published clinical trials in such areas as breast cancer prevention and treatment, advanced non-small cell lung cancer, chemotherapy-induced anemias, and others.
Dr. Davidson has served on 13 different boards in the last ten years including American Cancer Society, the Alabama Society of Clinical Oncology, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the PMD Advisory Committee of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, and others.
Dr. Davidson and his wife Suzanne Brown Davidson, have two children Wyatt and Lela. They attend the First United Methodist Church of Montgomery. When not active in Montgomery, they enjoy time together at Lake Martin and Rosemary Beach.
Craig Coblentz
Board Member
Craig Coblentz retired from the truck dealership business that he owned after 30 years. He is currently President of Equipment & Parts Specialty Company, a company dealing with tractors and right of way maintenance machinery, parts, etc. He has served on various boards over the years affiliated with auto and truck dealerships. Craig has served on many community boards in leadership roles and as a member. Some of these include the Lion’s Club and the Trinity Presbyterian School Board.
Craig and his family are very active and long-time members of Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church. Craig’s family holds the distinction of being the first family to join the East Montgomery Frazer location. Craig is married to the former Debbie Williams. They have four children Blake (Laura), Matthew (Jessica), Meredith Marshall (Travis), and Max (Caroline). They have 9 grandchildren. Craig has served as a 7th-grade boys Sunday School teacher, a member of the Board of Stewards, as Chairman of the Transition Team and, Chairman of the Staff-Parish Committee at Frazer.
