Go for God’s Gold
Who do you think buys the most gold jewelry in the world? The distinction goes to the people of India, as they purchased 560 metric tons of gold jewelry last year. That exceeds China’s 510 metric tons. Asia accounted for 64.5 percent of global demand for gold jewelry and bullion. America bought 6.5 percent.
The price for gold has really gone up in the last year. I don’t follow those trends carefully, but I read that it is a very good investment for the future. It’s not in my very limited portfolio. While gold is a measuring standard, there are some things that are more important than gold.
Job says, “If you give up your lust for money and throw your precious gold into the river, Almighty God Himself will be your gold.” (Job 22:24-25) David said, “The Commandments of the Lord are right bringing joy to the heart. The laws of the Lord are true. Each one is fair. They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold.” (Psalm 19:8-10)
Solomon said, “I have riches and honor as well as enduring wealth and justice. My gifts are better than gold, even the purest gold. My wages are better than sterling silver. I walk in righteousness and paths of justice. Those who love Me will inherit wealth. I will fill their treasures. (Proverbs 8:17-21) He also says, “How much better it is to get wisdom than gold.” (Proverbs 16:16)
Peter reminds us that trials are actually valuable. He says, “There is wonderful joy ahead even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold. Your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So, when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.” (I Peter 1:6,7)
People still continue to look for gold in the wrong places. In Auburn, California recently, a restaurant owner, Rubin Rominez, heard consistent pounding under his kitchen. He began to search the sewer system drain and found a flashlight, cigarettes and chocolates.
The police came and arrested two men who were digging for gold because they said it was near the Sierra, Nevada gold fields. The Auburn city manager, Tim Mendell, said that they would never find any significant gold in the city drains.

I was once invited to speak at their gathering, which happened to be on the 4th of July. They even had a bulletin printed for my presentation on July 4th. My topic was to be “In God We Trust.” The printer made a terrible typographical error. He added an “L” to one word and the title read “In Gold We Trust.” A terrible mistake—but one that might be true for many in our country.
America needs a gold rush, to the real gold that only God can give. Whatever the price of gold does, God has things far more valuable. Humbly receive the gold that God gives and that will put you on top of the list of the world’s richest people. It will also change America!
