I have a great friend, Wayne Atcheson. We have served together with the Fellowship of Christian
Athletes since the 1960s. He served as Sports Information Director at the University of Alabama for
twenty years. He helped start the first FCA Huddle Group at Alabama along with people like Steve Sloan.
The first speaker was Billy Graham. It’s the longest-running FCA Huddle Group in America!
When Billy Graham moved his national headquarters to Charlotte, North Caolina in 2007, his board
opened the Billy Graham Library. He immediately went to Wayne Atcheson and hired him to be the
director. He served in that capacity until his recent retirement.
I have visited that library on several occasions. Wow—what an experience. The library doesn’t have
many books, and it is not a museum, but rather a place of prayer, salvation, revival, and a great
atmosphere of peace and love. Both Billy Graham and his wife Ruth are buried there.
Every day the library plays a taped seven-minute invitation by Billy Graham to salvation forty-five times
a day, which is 270 times a week, which is over 13,000 times a year. What an outreach. The staff at the
library have prayed with 42,000 people, and it is estimated that over one million people who have
toured the library have prayed the prayer of salvation. When Billy Grahm was asked what he would like
to see for the library, he promptly replied, “I want the library to win souls.”
Wayne Atcheson has been deeply involved in revival as it is taking place in America, especially among
college students. He wrote a book about the Asbury Revival of 1970. He recently reported a visit to
Liberty University campus for a revival summit. What God is doing through college students is
astounding.
Let me highlight some of Wayne’s report. Barna studies are showing that the youth generation, Gen Z,
ages 14-29, are more open and spiritually inclined, more engaged with faith, and more passionate in
following Jesus than their parents when they were Gen Z. They are attending church more than ever.
Over one-half teens in the nation feel motivated to learn more about Jesus. There has been a 20%
increase in the sale of Bibles since 2024, and they are mostly being purchased by youth.
Wayne shares that in the last three years, UniteUs, which started in Auburn in 2023 with 6,000 college
students, has now conducted 28 one-night revivals on college campuses. Over 150,000 college students
have attended, and over 15,000 have been baptized the night of the rallies in ponds, fountains, the back
of pickup trucks, and in churches. The wife of an Auburn basketball coach, Tonya Prewett, initiated the
first rally at Auburn. Five other rallies are scheduled this spring at Pittsburgh, Florida State, Central
Florida, Samford, and Oklahoma State.
A professor at Yale began to pray for a revival on the campus of Yale for two hours. Two more people
joined him, then 60, and now 150 faculty, staff, and students at Yale pray two hours a day for God to
move on their campus. Similar things are happening at Harvard and Notre Dame. Students are open to
Jesus. They want to know Him and understand Truth.
I am inspired by Wayne Atcheson’s report. I highly recommend the library for you to visit in Charlotte.
More importantly, I urge you to pray for and participate in this great movement of God across our
college campuses.
How will you let God use you to fan the fire of revival?
