The Devil is alive and well. His strategy to win the world is to divide the people in the world. Division works in his favor. We are experiencing that in America and in Montgomery. So much could be done in our city and our nation if we worked together. I saw a great demonstration of this possibility recently on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
Ken Austin has a ministry of feeding people. He is breaking the chains of food insecurity. He has a little dilapidated house in west Montgomery where they cook and serve 500 meals every day. They cook on a 4-eye electric stove like you would find in an apartment.
A few years ago, a restaurant in Montgomery named Corsino’s went out of business. The old building was given to Ken Austin. It has taken a lot of money, time, and talent to bring it up to code. It is named the Manna House, taken from the Biblical concept of Manna, the food God provided every morning to the Israelites for 40 years in the desert. The theme is “Food from God to Tables in Need.” At the ribbon cutting, I had the privilege of giving the dedicatory prayer.
Leaders from all levels of government, businesses, and churches were there to celebrate this great ministry. Not only was the Manna House dedicated but also a food truck and a big food trailer. There is now the capability of cooking about 2,000 meals a day—and even ways to deliver them!
At the dedication of the Manna House, you could see every section of society. There were people of all races, all ages, all denominational affiliations and every political persuasion— it was the most diverse group of people you could imagine.
This is what a city ought to look like, everybody working together. Nobody talked about politics, or denominations, or race. Everybody just worked together to do what Matthew 25:35-40 teaches.
This is a picture of what Heaven is going to be like. If you don’t like the picture of what’s happening in the Manna House, you wouldn’t like Heaven!
We need unity in our community. We need to be people who will join hands and work together to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, receive people who are returning from incarceration, and help people who are suffering from addictions. Everybody needs to be singing off the same page.
Race relations are not a problem at the Manna House—people are just glad to serve and receive together. Politics are not a problem—nobody knows if you are a democrat or a republican. Unhealthy competition is not a problem—everybody is contributing to a common cause. This is what the Kingdom of God looks like. This is what Montgomery looked like on that day. This is what Montgomery and America could look like in the future! It all depends on how we are willing to work together.
Serving Jesus Christ together is the one thing that can bring us together. The ground is level at the foot of the Cross, and the ground is level where people join hands to serve God’s purpose for His people and see the Kingdom of God come on earth. We pray for that in the Lord’s Prayer.
The Devil doesn’t have a chance against people who are working together. His strategy is to divide—Jesus’ strategy is to unite. Which team are you on?
What will you do to bring unity in the community?
